"What lies beneath"

Final Photography Project Complete!

'What lies beneath', is is exploration of one's sense of being; self awareness and comfortability.
I chose to edit in black and white to show the underlying textures throughout each image created. I wanted my model to be the main visual focus and I felt that colour prints would be distracting and blend her and the background together too much.

"Beauty and the Beast"

“Beauty and the beast”
Humankinds impact on nature’s unrefined beauty is a reoccurring theme in my art practice. If the purpose of these images is to showcase the danger in beauty; these photographs and the symbolism held within, illustrate images/objects that can become a disguise of what is real.

The objects I collected for this theme included a perfume bottle: which acts as a disguise for the sins of humanity – as it makes you smell good – which masks the bad scent of humans. It can change how people perceive one another. Perfume is an important symbol as it is subtle and over looked but has enormous effects; perfume can act as a mark of perfection.
The scent of humans could symbolize the true nature of humans, and as the natural scent of people tend to be unpleasant – it depicts the true nature of humans, sinful and imperfect.
I also chose to include a mirror: Mirrors are a symbol of self awareness, examination of self or looking inward. Self consciousness - insecurity or superficiality. You may be concerned about your image and the way you present yourself to the world. Some say that if you see a clear image, you may be getting a glimpse of your true self. Other objects I included were pills, lipstick, nail polish and gold, patterned bracelets.

The decider!

Copper plate Etching: Unrequited love

Drypoint Etching: Lady of the lake

Drypoint Etching: Sinister smile and a hole in my heart

Drypoint Etching: Eyes set to kill

Sweet of printmaking works I have chosen to exhibit for this coming Second Year's 'Print and Photo' show.

Photography

Today I presented the final four edits as apart of my "Self Directed" project. Quite happy with the response given by both my teacher and class mates. :)
Time to move on and start my next photography series!

"I have gained inspiration for this body of work through my immediate observations; the purpose of this self directed project is to showcase feelings of isolation, disconnection and simply confusion. These images have become a platform in enabling me to create personal expression and in effect, has awakened my inner self. It is an emotional depiction of one's 'second self', an alter-ego; haunting images representing another persona."
